The School Holidays!

Well, the Hawthorn Seconday College Library may be closed on the holidays, but The State Library of Victoria will be open!

The Library has several gallery spaces which feature permanent displays of items from the collection as well as short-term and visiting exhibitions that are free to visit.

Juan Davila: A Panorama of Melbourne

11 April - 9 August 2009

This 12-metre panorama traces the evolution of Melbourne's built environment, from the homes of Indigenous Victorians and the tent city of white settlement through to the computer-aided design of contemporary city buildings. It concludes with a futuristic view of what the city may become.

The Independent Type: Books and Writing in Victoria

24 April - 25 October 2009

The Independent Type is a free exhibition celebrating Victoria's rich and diverse written culture, from traditional Indigenous stories to the vibrant contemporary scene. It highlights the stories, the voices and the spirit of independence that have made our literature unique.

The Changing Face of Victoria

This exhibition brings together historical artefacts, photographs, drawings, maps, letters and diaries to tell the stories of the people, places and events that have shaped life in Victoria over the past 200 years.

Mirror of the World: Books & Ideas

This exhibition showcases many of the rare, beautiful and historically significant books held in the Library’s collections. Located in the galleries overlooking the magnificent La Trobe Reading Room, this exhibition celebrates the unique place of books in our hearts and minds.
